A $15,000 first prize is up for grabs when the three-day Hoopla Basketball Tournament returns over the Easter Weekend.
The competition features seven-a-side basketball competition and will be held from Saturday to Monday at the Jean Pierre Complex.
Apart from the big prize, a $5,000 prize is also on offer for the runners-up. Special features during the tournament include a three-point shootout, and an All-Star exhibition match.
The tournament is organised by past students of San Juan Private Secondary and other members of the basketball fraternity such as former national player Roland Sylvester, who want to celebrate the rich sporting legacy of the school and excellence in Trinidad basketball in the 70’s and 80’s, when Trinidad and Tobago dominated Caribbean basketball.
“Most of all, it creates an opportunity for most of us to give back to the country and the sport we love and to provide a character building experience for out young people,” the organisers said. Registration is $500 per team, but the first 20 teams get in free. Further information can be obtained from Roland Sylvester (682-2201).
