After a hiatus of one year, championship swimming is set to return to the southland. The 2014 edition of the National Age Group Championships, hosted by Atlantis Aquatics Swim Club, began yesterday and will continue until Sunday at the St Michaelís Swim Facility, Carib Street, San Fernando. Finals begin at 6.00 p.m. each day.
On show will be some of Trinidad and Tobagoís top aquatic athletes, including members of the national team who last weekend competed in the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships in Barbados. The competition is expected to be especially sharp as this meet determines the composition of the national team for the Goodwill Swim Meet that will be held in Suriname in August.
Swimmers from Areios Aquatics, Atlantis Aquatics, Blue Dolphins, Centre of Excellence Seahawks, Flying Fish, Marlins, Petrotrin Barracudas, Point Fortin Aqua Darts, Silver Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Torpedoes, Tsunami, University of Trinidad and Tobago and YMCA Tobago will be battling to determine the leading swim club in Trinidad and Tobago.
