Arima, San Juan battle for East Zone

Arima North Secondary will face San Juan Secondary for the Coca Cola InterCol East Zone title today from 4 p.m. at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.

The odds favour Arima for victory today after a consistent string of performances for the season and a hard-fought 2-1 victory over defending champions St Augustine Secondary last week.

San Juan are the surprise package, as they stunned East League champs El Dorado East Secondary 4-1, who were previously unbeaten in the zone.

The "Dial Dynamos" will also be brimming with confidence for the contest, having scored two 2-0 victories over San Juan in the League competition. But only one team can be crowned East champions and move on to the National InterCol semi-finals against the Central Zone winners.

Arima's last trip to the national stage was in 2003 when striker Gorean Highley.starred, leading then Arima Senior Comprehensive to both "Big Five" and InterCol finals, where they lost to eventual champions St Anthony's College.

San Juan's last national foray was their 2007 "Big Five" success.

Today's Fixture:

Arima North Secondary vs San Juan North Secondary, 4 p.m., Larry Gomes Stadium
