Aubrey Edwards passes on

Former champion field athlete, Aubrey Edwards has died. He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76.

Edwards was one of the founding members of Hampton Sports Club.

Edwards was also a past president of the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association (T&TTTA), and a former International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) board member. He was founder of the Woodbrook Gladiators Table Tennis Club.

His wife, Verna is a former Caribbean Championship women's singles silver medallist, and daughter Aleena, a nine-time national women's singles champion.

A prison officer by profession, Edwards served as Chief Prisons Welfare Officer and manager of St Michael's School for Boys.

Edwards' funeral takes place next Monday, at the Trinity Cathedral in Port of Spain, from 9 a.m. He will be buried at Western Cemetery, in St James.
