Trinidad and Tobago will miss the all-round talents of Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo for tomorrow’s West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-Day Tournament clash with the Windward Islands at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Both Pollard and Bravo failed to secure a release from their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clubs, Chittagong Kings and Dhaka Gladiators respectively, with the League heading towards its knockout stage. This is despite both players indicating previously their intention to return for the match.
While T&T will not eventually have the services of two of their key players, they will have the much-needed experience of Daren Ganga to lean on, with the former T&T skipper being selected for a T&T team for the first time since he stepped down as captain last November.
T&T have a long list of injury woes, with opener Adrian Barath and pacer Ravi Rampaul yesterday being ruled out of the match. Barath was struck on the hand during T&T’s five-wicket away loss to Barbados last weekend, while Rampaul has been nursing a shoulder injury.
Lendl Simmons is also out for at least six weeks with a broken finger. And without the services of Bravo and Pollard, T&T yesterday named a 15-man squad on which five players are yet to play a first-class match.
Wicket-keeper/batsman Stephen Katwaroo, left arm orthodox spinner Emile Rajah, Queen’s Park batsmen Marlon Barclay and Daron Cruickshank and former T&T Under-19 all-rounder Teshawn Castro have all been named in a squad that should be cut to 13 today, meaning at least one of those players will debut.
T&T skipper Denesh Ramdin is unlikely to stand behind the stumps after suffering a split webbing on his hand during the Barbados encounter, meaning that Katwaroo and Gibran Mohammed are both options for the wicket-keeper slot.
T&T did not train yesterday, but the visiting Windwards arrived in T&T and headed to the match venue for an afternoon session. But the home team will train at the Oval from 9 a.m. this morning, while the Windwards will practice from 2 p.m. today.
Denesh Ramdin (captain), Justin Guillen, Imran Khan, Daren Ganga, Daren Bravo, Jason Mohammed, Rayad Emrit, Stephen Katwaroo, Gibran Mohammed, Sunil Narine, Emile Rajah, Shannon Gabriel, Marlon Barclay, Daron Cruickshank, Teshawn Castro; Omar Khan (manager), Kelvin Williams (coach), Ronald Rogers (trainer), Oba Gulston (physiotherapist).
