Bassarath praises Narine for wrecking CCCThe Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) has heaped praises on off-spinner Sunil Narine after his match-winning performances against Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) in their Regional Four-Day Tournament day/night clash in Barbados on the weekend. Narine spun his way to five first innings wickets and then helped prop up the national team's second innings to 168 with an unbeaten 34, including four fours and two sixes. He then returned to wreck CCC's second innings, taking eight wickets for 17 runs, for a match haul of 13 wickets for 39 runs. CCC, chasing 287 for victory, only got to 114 and T&T won the match by 172 runs, inside of three days. TTCB president Azim Bassarath described Narine's performance as "phenomenal" and said it was an example of what is in store for Trinidad and Tobago throughout the tournament. "The entire performance of the T&T team is commendable and we look forward to consistently top-class performances from this team over the season," Bassarath said. Narine, the 23-year-old right arm spinner, only a few days ago was snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders for US$700,000 to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bassarath also lauded batsman Darren Bravo and all-rounder Kevon Cooper for being picked up in the IPL auction and said although other players like Ravi Rampaul, Lendl Simmons and Denesh Ramdin did not land IPL contracts, it showed the "depth" of T&T cricket. Said the Cricket Board head: "We are now being looked at by the world as the place where emerging talent is being identified and nurtured, which justifies the plans and programmes that the T&TCB have been pursuing." |
