OLIVIA BENNETT captured her second title in successive days when the BG T&T Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament continued yesterday at the club’s courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.
The 23-year-old, who completed studies in the United States a few months ago, and sister Cristina came from behind to defeat top seeds and defending champions Trevine Sellier and Leah Alcala 3-6, 6-2, 10/5 in the doubles final.
Olivia, who won the singles title in the South Open Tournament last month when she returned to local competition after a four-year absence, and Cristina, competing for the first time in over five years, were playing together for the very first time.
Olivia won the mixed doubles crown with the assistance of Richard Chung on Friday and is the top seed and overwhelming favourite to win the singles title and complete the triple crown.
Singles action gets going at 2.30 p.m. today but the Fed Cup player is on a bye and will play tomorrow for a place in the quarter-finals. Chung is the top seed and defending men’s champ.
Top seeds Yohansey Williams and Seve Day cruised past Vaughn Wilson and Akiel Duke, the champ and runner-up, respectively, in “South”, 6-1, 6-4 for the men’s doubles crown yesterday.
All four players are in the singles draw.
