Bennett goes for second ‘Tranquil’ title

OLIVIA BENNETT will go after her second title in successive days when the BG T&T Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament continues today at the club’s courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.

The 23-year-old and younger sister Cristina will tackle top seeds and defending champions Trevine Sellier and Leah Alcala for the doubles crown today.

Yesterday Olivia, who returned to local competition after an absence of over four years to capture the women’s singles crown in the South Open Tournament last month, and Richard Chung secured the mixed doubles title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Tobagonian Akiel Duke and Carissa Rudolfo.

Duke, the runner-up in “South” and “South” and national champ Vaughn Wilson will contest today’s doubles final against top seeds Seve Day and former singles and doubles champ Yohansey Williams.

Olivia, once ranked in the top 150 in the world in juniors, and Cristina are competing for the first time together.

Fed Cup player Olivia is eyeing a triple crown as she is the top seed and overwhelming favourite to capture the singles crown.

Singles action serves off tomorrow and Chung is the top seed and defending men’s champ.

Both doubles finals get going at 4 p.m. today.
