Big day in North, East and South

By Kern De Freitas kern.defreitas@trinidadexpress.com

Second spot is up for grabs when North Zone leaders and defending champions St Anthony's College travel to Moka to face Trinity College from 3.45 p.m. in today's BG T&T/ First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) action.

The "Tigers" are the only team in the North Zone not to suffer a loss this season, but have failed to pull away after playing to three draws, including two against SSFL Championship debutants Diego Martin North Secondary.

This gives St Mary's College, currently second, and East Mucurapo Secondary, who stand in fourth place, an opportunity to close the four-point gap atop the standings if St Anthony's slip up again.

St Mary's (14 points) took advantage of draws by the Tigers (18 points) and Mucurapo (12) in the last round to leap into second spot. But with only six points separating the top four, this contest is even more crucial. For Mucurapo, another loss could put them all but out of the title race.

Diego Martin will take a rest today, while Fatima host QRC at their Mucurapo Road ground.

The South Zone standings are also very interesting. Shiva Boys Hindu School, who won their first zonal title last year, are in danger of surrendering their title, and will be on the verge of doing so if Naparima College upset them at Manny Ramjohn Stadium.

Presentation College San Fernando are the only team in the League with a perfect record thus far, and under coach Shawn Cooper, they will be favoured to continue that streak away to St Benedict's College at La Romaine.

There is no action today in the Central and Tobago Zones, but in the East, El Dorado East Secondary, currently third, will try to edge closer to the lead against unbeaten Arima North Secondary, who are currently on top.

St Augustine Secondary, who seem to have improved with time, will be favoured to defeat Toco Secondary at Toco today, while San Juan North Secondary, currently second, should have the edge over Trinity College East.

All matches kick off at 3.45 p.m.
