Bigman In Town, Headline News kept apart

By \\\\\ Glen Mohammed

THIS COUNTRY’S two leading creoles have been kept apart and will not face each other on Friday at Santa Rosa Park. Bigman In Town is being pointed to the 1,800-metre ARC Cup while Headline News has been declared for the softer option, the Carnival Messiah Stakes, on the same card.

Defending champion Galveston will leave from the one-gate, with Nobel Abrego aboard, while last year’s Horse of the Year Bigman In Town will exit from post four in the ten-runner feature ARC Cup.

At yesterday’s draw, held in the Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) room, Santa Rosa Park, Arima Race Club (ARC) chief executive officer (CEO) Chris Armond explained that Tobago House of Assembly (THA) has not pulled out as a sponsor on the Labour Day holiday card, but has asked for another raceday, as they have some ongoing projects.

At entry stage yesterday, among Bigman In Town’s rivals in the $150,000 feature include Crime Of Passion, emerging star Bergeron Rodeo, along with Readbetweendlines, J’ouvert, and Sacred Trust.

Armond indicated that a number of Trinidad-owned horses, which competed in the Jamaican Derby last Saturday, will be shipping in for this country’s Derby on September 24.

Included among those expected to ship-in are Jamaica Derby winner Relampago and Princess Popstar, voted last year’s Jamaica Horse of the Year and the first juvenile to be bestowed that accolade.

And in the Carnival Messiah Stakes, Headline News will leave from the outside gate in the six-horse event, which carries a purse of $125,000.
