Cleopatra Borel opened her 2013 season with a second-place finish in the women's shot put at the Shot in the City indoor meet, in Auckland, New Zealand, yesterday.

The Trinidad and Tobago field athlete threw the iron ball 17.13 metres.

New Zealand's Valerie Adams dominated the field with a 20.75m monster throw—a new Oceania indoor record. Adams is a two-time Olympic champion and three-time World Championship gold medallist.

Both Borel and Adams are expected to compete at the Sydney Track Classic, in Australia, on Saturday.
