Boxill, Lewis push Defence Force past Valencia Heat

 Defence Force continued their unbeaten run in the Mackeson Super10 Basketball League on Thursday night with an 84-77 win over Valencia at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex in Port of Spain.

It was the third win in as many games for the five-time defending champions Defence Force, who outscored Valencia Heat 31-22 in the fourth and final quarter to seal the win.

Steven Lewis and point-guard Derrick Boxill combined for 48 points in the game, with Boxill scoring eight of his 20 points in the final session and Lewis connecting on ten of his game-high of 28 points.

Valencia, who had former American NCAA Division players in Sherman Diaz, Mario Davis, Jonathan Weekes and Wayne Richards, trailed the first quarter 12-16 and were behind 33-37 at the half before bouncing back with a 22-16 score line in the third session of play to lead 55-53.

For Valencia Heat, forward Fabrice Fisher scored 22 points and Diaz had 13, while point-guard Junior Williams chipped in eight.

In the other game on Thursday at Jean Pierre Complex, Maloney Pacers beat Diego Martin 73-57 to stay perfect after two games.

Diego Martin took a one point lead 15-14 after the first period before the Pacers took the lead at the half with a 28-25 score line.

Forward Keyon Joseph had a productive night with 37 points, and Dwamar Davis supported with 12 for Maloney, while for Diego Martin had no players in double digits. Keya Blackett, Gershwin Duncan and Sadiki Guerra all helped the cause with six points each for Diego Martin.
