Bravo, ‘Hyppa Hoppa’ for charity game

West Indies ODI captain Dwayne Bravo and media personality Kwesi “Hyppa Hoppa” Hopkinson will lead opposing teams when the Altruistic Benefit Cup (ABC) football match is staged at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on Sunday, December 1. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.

The charity event coincides with World Aids Day, and event organiser Ian Haywood Jr,  managing director of A Class International, stated that the event will benefit three organisations—the Cyril Ross Nursery, the Children’s Life  Fund and Mothers 2 Mothers.

At Wednesday night’s launch, at the VIP Lounge of the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Haywood spoke about the name of the event.

“We want the word altruistic to be not just a word you see in the dictionary but something that touches each and every one of our lives.”

Haywood wants to change the thinking and culture in this country, a task he recognised as being “really tough”.

Haywood said soca artiste Neil “Iwer” George and Hopkinson were the first two to show interest, but that George had to pull out of the match day events because of an urgent commitment.

A Class has organised a dynamic social media campaign and radio and TV ad promotions as a build-up to the Altruistic Benefit Cup.

The pre-show, which will feature performances from participating artistes, is scheduled to start at three p.m. There will also be a health fair hosted by PSI, one of the supporters of the Cup.

“So the entertainment is going to be good, the football is going to be fun, out of this world, but I don’t want us to forget the real reason and real cause we have come together to achieve,” Haywood stated.

Bravo, who is currently in India for the West Indies ODI series there (See Page 62), replaced George as the head player of the Celebritilona FC team. Bravo sent a video from India asking for the public to come out and support a fun day for a very worthy cause.

Hopkinson, who will lead the Media United team, invited the nation to turn out for a great cause. He promised that his media battalion would demolish Celebritilona.
