Bryden, Gonslaves lead Tatil Open

By Mark Pouchet

Liam Bryden and Deryck Gonsalves fired two over par 74 to finish day one tied atop the leaderboard of the Men’s Championship flight of the 21st Tatil Open Invitational Golf at the St Andrew’s Golf Course in Moka, Maraval yesterday.

But Super Seniors campaigner Arjoon Samlal had the honour of shooting the low score of the day with a one over par 73.

Back in the Championship flight, Clint Alfred and Roger Gill are tied for third on 75, while 2013 T&T Open champion Shane Costelloe, on the mend from a knee injury, and Dave Rajkumar are in joint fifth on 76.

Former West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara injured one of his arms on the approach to the eight hole after he found himself on a difficult lie to the pin and is now out of the competition. His long-time friend and ex Soca Warrior player and coach Russell Latapy also found himself way down the field after a round of 87.

Among the Super Seniors, Arjune Samla has a significant six-stroke lead over Maurice Mathura, with Tyrone Leong and Selwyn Hakin tied for third with a score of 80 after 18 holes.

Defending champion Christina Ferreira has a comfortable lead over Ysabelle Lawrence in the Ladies competition (78 to 82) with veteran Pauline Raynor four strokes adrift of Lawrence (86) in third.
