Busby strikes Horizon gold

Durell Busby emerged as the men’s 60 metres hurdles champion at the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Ohio, USA, on the weekend.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior stopped the clock at 7.89 seconds for a comfortable victory in the final. In the preliminary round, he had clocked 7.94 to lead all qualifiers into the final.

Busby also competed in the 60m dash, the Trinidad and Tobago athlete finishing sixth in the final in 7.02 seconds. He had produced a 7.06 run in the qualifying round.

At the George Mason Last Chance meet, in Virginia, Coppin State University sophomore Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.78 metres to strike gold in the women’s high jump.

St Augustine’s University senior Jameel Wilson returned a time of one minute, 56.39 seconds to seize silver in the men’s 800m.

And Chelsi Campbell picked up silver in the women’s 500m, the University of Delaware sophomore getting home in 1:17.44.

In Boston, Morgan State University senior Emmanuel Stewart produced an 18.81m effort to earn silver in the Boston University Last Chance Meet men’s weight throw event.

And at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Indoor Championships, in Iowa, Samantha Shukla finished fourth in both the women’s 1 mile and 3,000m events.

In the mile final, Shukla produced a 4:59.10 run. The Wichita State University senior had clocked 4:57.94 in the preliminary round. In the 3,000m, she got home in 9:44.86.
