Caledonia Clippers keep streak going

Caledonia Clippers extended their winning streak to six games after their 89-86 win over Detour Shak Attack in their Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League Men’s Division game at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex, Port of Spain, on Thursday night.

In end to end action, it was the final two minutes of the encounter that eventually separated the two teams after the scores were tied at 80-80.

Centres Christopher Lares and Shawn Lawrence then put Caledonia ahead, combining for seven of their team’s last nine points, while Kurt “Coto” Christian for Shak Attack scored his team’s last seven points, an effort which turned out to be in vain.

Caledonia Clippers led 28-18 after the first period and then 50-45 at the half before Shak Attack outscored them in the third quarter with guards Orlando Mapp and Christian netting nine and five points respectively for a 21-17 advantage.

However, the Clippers still held the lead 67-60 heading into the final session before sealing the win.

For the Clippers, forward Wesley Vincent top-scored with 13 points, centre Lares sank 12, while teammates Dwayne Moses and Shawn Lawrence helped with 11 points apiece.

For Shak Attack, guard Christian led all scorers with 25 points, forward Kennyatta Alfred had 18 and Mapp netted 17.

In the first game at Jean Pierre on Thursday, guard Donnette Reid scored 24 points to lead three players into double-digits and help Quarters United record a 106-59 win over Courts Horizon in a women’s division game.

Guard Annola Charles set Horizon’s offence in motion with four three-point baskets as the first quarter ended 21-21.

However, Quarters outscored the former three-time champions 24-13 in the second session to open a 45-34 half-time lead and never looked back.

Reid got support from Melissa Guerrero and Adina Cummings with 21 and ten points respectively.

Annola Charles led Horizon with 22 points, while centre Rachael King added 15.
