Caledonia battered Palo Seco 104-39 to reach the quarter-finals of the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League on Sunday at Paradise Heights Basketball Court. They are the first team to do so in the inaugural staging of the League.
Keyon Joseph led the rout for Caledonia with his game-high 27 points, while Steve WIlliams (20 points) and Wesley Vincent (17 points) also chipped in to ensure the Morvant/Laventille-based team was never in any danger of losing.
Jody Roberts' seven points was the best offensive effort Palo Seco could muster.
Also through are Arima, who travelled to La Brea and defeated the hosts 88-60 at La Brea Basketball Court. Nicholas Media sank 21 points to head Arima's offense, and his brother Justin added 19.
They helped Arima to a lead of 21-10 at the end of the first quarter, an advantage they would not relinquish. La Brea matched Arima's 21 points in the second period for a 42-31 lead, but that was as close as they would get to the eventual winners.
Andre Phillip's 11 points was the top score for La Brea.
La Romaine, meanwhile, extended their win streak to six games in whipping Barataria 114 to 79. Derrick Borell was dominant in sinking 45 of Barataria's points, while Delroy Agard added 21, and Adrian Joseph, 20 points.
Barataria relied on the efforts of Collin Fleming (22 points), Kevin Nunes (11) and Terrance Jones (ten).
