Canaan/Bon Accord stay unbeaten vs Plymouth
The final preliminary round game in the Tobago leg of the Hoop of Life Basketball League featuring Canaan/Bon Accord and Plymouth was a high-scoring affair with Canaan Bon Accord coming away with a 110-82 victory.
In a game that was of academic importance only, Tobago Sector 1 tabletoppers Canaan/Bon Accord’s only motivation against last-placed Plymouth was to preserve their unbeaten record.
Canaan/Bon Accord, who faltered in the national quarter-finals last year, led their final round match by 15 points in the first quarter and never looked back.
Plymouth’s best quarter was in the second, when they outscored the winners 24-22 to trail Plymouth 53-40 at the end of the first half.
Leading the charge for the Tobago Sector 1 tabletoppers were Randell Moore with 27 points, Allister Roachford with 22 points and Lenwayne Wallace with 18 points.
Chris Nelson had the hot hand for the losers with 23 points, while Jerron Gilman added 21 points and Rondell Roberts contributed 19 points.
Scarborough was second in Tobago Sector 1 with five wins from eight games.
Mason Hall won Tobago Sector 2 with seven wins from their eight games, while Moriah was second with the similar stats.
The preliminary rounds of the 2013 edition of the Hoop of Life Community Basketball League were set to conclude last night with the final round-robin match between last year’s losing finalists Marabella and fourth place finishers La Romaine, at Vistabella Basketball Court.
La Romaine are unbeaten after seven matches and led the five-team standings with 14 points heading into last night’s game.
When the two teams met in the first round of the competition, Marabella came away with a 78-69 victory.
La Romaine will be led by point-guard Derek Boxill, who scored 26 points while leading them to a 80-71 win in La Romaine back in June.
Boxill has so far recorded two big scores of 53 against Lady Hailes Avenue in a 114-96 win in their second round meeting and before that 43 against Pleasantville in a 119-70 victory.
