CANDY MAN will go after his fifth career victory when racing continues today at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
The Derek Mosca-trained four-year-old, who has recorded his four victories from only six starts, will be facing seven 70-50 rated horses at 4.36 p.m. in the penultimate event of the six-race card.
Candy Man is best at extended sprint distances and will have a grand opportunity to enhance his already awesome reputation. But the 1,300-metre distance is also right up Mike's Sugar's alley and he could be the spoiler.
Although this Stephen Jardim-trained five-year-old has not scored in a long time, he has been racing at a higher level and shown glimpses of returing to form recently.
There are six others involved in the race sponsored by M&A Nadur Company and the Canadian-bred Mostly Watched, who flopped as the favourite last time out on Janurary 2, deserves another chance and could be the biggest danger to Candy Man and Mike's Sugar.
The tropies for the other six races have been donated by Anhony Ramsingh, Selwyn Lee Loy, Edmund Mathura, Rolf Bartolo, Hometown Pharmacy and Fresh Juice For Life as Midway Marketing And Publishing will be sponsoring for the very first time.
The producers of Inside Info, the pamphlet better known as the "Pink Paper" which has been providing information to punters on race days for more than five years, will also stage their third annual Pink Paper Awards during the afternoon.
The best-dressed person in pink today will collect $500 and any person wearing the colour pink will get a free copy of Inside Info for the rest of the month.
But perhaps the main highlight of the day for punters will be the Pick 6 as no one has been able to win this bet in the six race days since December 3 and more than $37,000 has been carried over into the pool.
The Pick 6 begins at 2.06 p.m. in the second event, the 1,200-metre contest for horses rated 40 & lower.
Post-time for the fifth round of the Arima Race Club's 2012 Season is 1.30 p.m.
