Central FC outshoot Army 3-1
CHAMPIONS Defence Force had an unsuccessful start to the new Digicel Pro League season which saw them lose 3-1 to Central FC on Friday night at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.
Kerry Joseph headed Kevon Carter’s cross-ball past the full dive of national senior team keeper Jan Michael Williams to give Army a quick start in just the seventh minute. But parity was restored at 1-1 in the 28th through the Central FC captain, Jason Marcano, who scored a penalty after Army captain Corey Rivers used his arm to stop Marcano’s cross.
The teams went in balanced at the half, but Central came out better in the second. New teenaged recruit, Dwight Quintero put “The Sharks” ahead in the 66th minute when beating keeper Kevin “Barthez” Graham with a hard, low shot from outside the penalty area. Rundell Winchester then ended it with an exclamation mark--a spectacular bicycle kick in the 77th minute.
If the Trinidad and Tobago senior team selectors had not been looking Winchester’s way before, they should soon be calling on the Tobago-born 20-year-old, who is built like Dwight Yorke and has an eye for goal. Central picked up the Tobago boy last season, after seeing him playing for Super League club Stokely Vale, and he has not looked back since.
