Chai splashes to record at Peter Awong meet
Atlantis Aquatics’ Jada Chai splashed to the lone record at the Peter Awong Memorial Swim Meet at the Flying Fish 25-metre short course pool over the weekend.
Chai only took part in one event, the Girls 11-12 100m butterfly, and made the effort count with a record-breaking effort of one minute, 07.28 seconds for the four-lap event, erasing Kimberlee John-Williams’s 2007 standard of 1:07.44.
Aerios Aquatics’ Vrisnelit Faure, a former teammate of Chai, also dipped under the former record when she was timed in 1:07.32.
Over 150 swimmers from ten clubs competed in the one-day meet.
Hosts Titans were the top club with 907.5 points. with Tidal Wave Aquatics second in 649. Marlins rounded out the top three with 507.5 points.
In the race for the age-group high point trophies, Marlins’ Zoe Anthony topped the Girls Eight & Under category, while Tidal Wave Aquatics Johann-Matthew Matamoro was the winner of the Eight & Under.
Tidal Wave’s Jahmia Harley and Delroy Tyrrell dominated the Girls and Boys 9-10 age group, while Point Fortin Aqua Darts’s Marissa Dickson and Titans’s Kyle Sirju were the top point earners for the Girls and Boys 11-12.
In the 13-14 division, Torpedoes’s Jewel Mulrain and Marlins’s James Gillette mounted the top rostrum of the podium, while in the 15 & over category, Tidal Waves’ Syriah David and Titans’ Joshua Ramkissoon were the Girls and Boys winners respectively.
