Champs Pres Chaguanas start SSCL defence

By Roger Seepersad

Defending champions Presentation College Chaguanas start their quest for their second consecutive PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Premier Division at home to Fatima College from 10 a.m.

The hosts will be fielding a young team in this year's competition, and although they won the title last year with a good mix of youth and experience and a bit of luck, this year's competition promises to be a lot stiffer.

All the teams including newcomers Trinity College East and Carapichaima East will have their work cut out.

Last year's runners up Hillview College, third place Naparima Boys College and fourth place El Dorado East Secondary have all retained some of their experienced players from the previous campaign.

Most of the teams will be without their key players this week. Naps players Jovan Ali and Nicholas Pooran, Fatima's Camillo Carimbocas, and Hillview duo Jeremy Solozano and Jesse Bootan are among 15 players selected on an SSCL Under-18 team that will travel to India today for the International Schools Premier League Twenty20 tournament in Lucknow, India starting Friday. The players should return to their respective schools in time for the fourth round of action which takes place on February 4.
