Champs QPCC start T20 defence vs Comets

By Roger Seepersad

Queen's Park Cricket Club will once again start as favourites against Premier Division League leaders when the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Premiership Twenty20 competition bowls off today.

The Parkites, chasing their third consecutive T20 title, will have their T20 stars–Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine–available for their opening round match against Comets, which takes place at Pierre Road, Charlieville from 2.30 p.m.

The competition format has been changed from previous years with the introduction of a preliminary round, which will see two groups of six battling in round-robin action.

The change means that each team will play at least five matches before they go into the knock-out phase.

The top four teams in each group will on to the knock-out round, set for the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board T20 Festival at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

The Parkites have been drawn in Group A along with Comets, Merry Boys, Seenath's Auto Bamboo Sports, Hafeez Karamath Limited Aranjuez Sports and Moosai Sports.

PowerGen Penal, with Jason Mohammed, Ravi Rampaul, Evin Lewis, Samuel Badree and Nicholas Sookdeosingh in their line-up, will head Group B. They tackle Caldrac Club in their opener at Syne Village, Penal today.

Although Rampaul has been named in the PowerGen squad, it has not been confirmed whether he will play after missing out on recent matches for his club team.

The other group B teams include First Citizens Clarke Road United, F&E Diamond United, Esmeralda Sports and W Connection Wanderers, who have so far failed to turn up for all of their matches this season.

All matches start at 2.30 p.m.
