Champs start U-17 defence with win

Off-spinners Carl Vialva and Anand Lochan ensured North Zone began their BG T&T InterZone Under-17 title defence in style as they beat North East by ten wickets in the first round at Serpentine Road, St Clair yesterday.

Vialva grabbed five for 11 and Lochan took four for seven to dismiss North East for 68 before Jordan Warner (40 not out) and Cavan Byrne (22 not out) sealed the victory in 18.4 overs.

The 50-over competition was officially opened yesterday at Serpentine Road, with Wendell Constantine from BG T&T on hand to offer words of encouragement to the cricketers.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board was represented by first vice-president Dudnath Ramkessoon, while North Zone chairman Don Asgarali was also present.

The tournament continues today with North taking on Tobago in the second round at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain Couva.
