Chanderpaul ton, T&T U19s struggle

 \\\\\ GEORGETOWN

Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s unbeaten hundred followed by a Trinidad and Tobago batting slump, put Guyana firmly in control of their third round game in the Regional Under-19 Championship here yesterday.

The experienced Chanderpaul stroked an attractive 132 as Guyana, resuming the day at Bourda on 228 for five, piled up 310 for nine declared.

However, Trinidad and Tobago’s batsmen then failed to put up a fight, as they crashed to 117 all out to concede a first innings lead of 193 runs.

Jeremy Solozano, Jemeel Maniram and Anderson Phillip all got starts in scoring 23 but could not convert these into bigger scores.

T&T were undermined by the spin trio of Daimon Waldron (2-9), Steven Sankar (2-25) and Sharaz Ramcharran (2-39) all of whom picked up two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Chanderpaul completed a fine century after resuming the day on 79, partnered by Keemo Paul on 13.

The left-handed Chanderpaul, the son of West Indies batting star Shiv Chanderpaul, reached his century with his 11th boundary—a beautiful on drive—in 433 minutes off 339 balls.

Paul added just one to his overnight score but Chanderpaul, who has already played nine first class matches for Guyana’s senior team, held the tail together to eke out precious runs for his side.

Spinners once again did the trick with Samuel Roopnarine grabbing three for 60 and Justin Joseph, two for 73.
