Chin trying to increase participation in tae-kwon-do

Jerry Chin is trying to bring the art of tae-kwon-do to Trinidad and Tobago with the view of increasing the amount of people practising the technique. Chin also hopes that because the style is an Olympic sport, it has gained recognition and popularity locally and that T&T can one day compete on the world stage in the discipline.

He said tae-kwon-do is one of the most powerful and practised martial art in the world and it is one of the newest Olympic events, becoming a full medal sport in the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia.

Chin explained that tae-kwon-do is a striking art and is characterised by an emphasis on kicking techniques and it is one of the few martial arts in which practitioners are expected to executes kicks to high targets.

A demonstration of the power associated with the technique can be seen on YouTube Zack 7 board smash which features a local tae-kwon-do expert, third degree black belt Edward Chin. Persons interested in learning tae-kwon-do can contact Jerry Chin at 718-1915 or Edward Chin at
