Clean sweep for T&T teams

Trinidad and Tobago's water polo teams completed a clean sweep of the titles at the 2012 Carifta Water Polo Championship in Jamaica on Sunday, when the T&T boys 15 and under and boys 19 and under teams added their crowns to the one the girls 19 and under squad secured on Saturday night.

It was an historic achievement for Trinidad and Tobago as it is the first time they have earned all titles on offer at a single competition.

In a keenly-contested game on Saturday night, the T&T female team defeated Jamaica 6-4 to take the gold, clinching their best-of-five series 3-1.

But in the first final Sunday evening at the National Stadium Pool in Kingston, the Trinidad and Tobago boys 15 & under easily dispatched the home team 25-3 to solidify their dominance in the competition.

Adrian Hinds, the tournament's male 15 & under Top Goal Scorer and Best Defensive Player, led the way with ten goals, while T&T got their other goals from Justin Bhola (4), Dyllon Lara  (4), Christian Gillette (3) and one apiece from Adam Alexis, Keanan Charles, Liam Smith and Kryztien Sharpe.

And in the last match of the competition, the 19 and under male team--who are preparing for the Junior World Championships in Australia later this year--trounced rivals Curaçao 20-6.

Jonathan Gillette, who will be joining the Trinidad and Tobago Carifta swimming squad who leave tomorrow for the Bahamas, spearheaded the T&T team's attack with six items.

Daniel Alvarez and Russell Ferreira added five each, while Marc Stauble netted two and Ryan West and Daniel Tardieu scored one item each.

All three national teams return from Jamaica tonight on flight BW475 at 11.10.
