Comets, Moosai clash for National League lead

By Roger Seepersad roger.seepersad@trinidadexpress.com

National League Premier Division leaders Alescon Comets will seek their fifth consecutive win against second-placed Moosai Sports in Round Five action at Pierre Road, Charlieville today from 10 a.m.

Comets, who won the Premier Division in 2001 and 2005, have a 100 per cent record this season and have 22 points more than Moosai, who are also unbeaten in four matches with two outright wins and two first innings wins.

Last year Moosai beat Comets outright after trailing on first innings. This time, Comets will hope their experienced line-up can take them to their first Premier Division title in over ten years.

Navin Stewart, William Perkins, Kjorn and Yannick Ottley, all senior Trinidad and Tobago players, and centurion from last week, former Guyana youth cricketer Jeetendra Sookdeo, are on the Moosai roster.

They will be up against a tough Comets line-up that is boosted by leg-spinner Imran Khan's return from national duty, and ex-T&T skipper Daren Ganga, who missed Comets' exciting 13-run win over Seenath's Auto Bamboo Sports last weekend.

Also today, Merry Boys will try to exact revenge for Thursday night's crushing semi-final loss to Queen's Park Cricket Club in the Sunday League when they face the "Parkites" at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground.

The Parkites will be without West Indies trio Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo for the fixture, but will have T&T openers Adrian Barath and Justin Guillen, as well as off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth.

All matches bowl off today at 10 a.m. and continue tomorrow from 9:30 a.m.
