Cooper’s Royals still perfect in CLT20
Trinidad and Tobago’s Kevon Cooper grabbed two for 33 before hitting an unbeaten eight off four balls to help Rajasthan Royals clinch a four-wicket win over Otago Volts in their Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) Group A match, in Jaipur, yesterday.
The win ensured Rajasthan topped Group A and gave Mumbai Indians a chance of reaching the next stage.
Otago are on ten points while Mumbai are on six with one game to play, against Perth Scorchers today.
A big win for Mumbai could see them go through to the semis ahead of Otago on net run rate.
Yesterday, Otago recovered from 21 for four in the fifth over to post 139 for seven, but it was not enough as the Royals, riding on the back of contrasting half-centuries from Ajinkya Rahane (52 off 48 balls) and Brad Hodge (52 not out off 23 balls), reached 142 for six to win with five balls remaining.
Rahul Shukla’s three wickets in the fourth over of the match broke the backbone of the Volts’ batting. He removed Hamish Rutherford, Brendon McCullum and Derek de Boorder in the over to put his team ahead.
But Otago fought back, James Neesham hitting 32 off 25 balls. Nathan McCullum chipped in with 28 off 20, while Ian Butler scored 25 off 18 to boost their score.
The Royals were off to a brisk start but slipped to 72 for four before clinching the win, their fourth in as many Group A matches.
