Costelloe ends Johnson's 'Open' reign

Trinidad and Tobago golfer Shane Costelloe won a playoff to deny Barbadian James Johnson a hat-trick when the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association's (TTGA) Amateur Golf Championship concluded yesterday at the St Andrew's Golf Club in Moka.

Coming into the 16th hole, the two-time champion Johnson was one shot ahead, but at the 17th Costelloe pulled even and the pair, who had been battling since day two, scored even par on the 18th and for the day to end on 295 each.

But in the playoff, Johnson double-bogeyed before Costelloe secured par for the victory in the Championship Division.

Third was Clint Alfred who fired 77 yesterday for an overall score of 303 and Deryck Gonzales, Roger Gill and Sachin Kumar were involved in a three-way tie for fourth (304).
