Cruickshank leads QPCC to UWI T20 semis

Right-arm medium pacer Daron Cruickshank snatched four wickets for three runs off 3.1 overs to lead Queen’s Park Cricket Club into the semi-finals of the University of the West Indies National Twenty20 tournament following their easy nine-wicket win over Caldrac Club in their quarterfinal match at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, UWI SPEC yesterday.

Cruickshank grabbed two wickets in his first over and one in his second as the Caldrac top order collapsed from seven without loss to 12 for three in the space of two overs.

They never recovered from the poor start and were eventually dismissed for 75 with Cruickshank, who was named the Man-of-the-Match, taking the last wicket to fall.

Jon-Ross Jaggesar top-scored for Caldrac with an unbeaten 22 off 36 balls and was one of only three batsmen to reach double figures.

The other two were Antonio Aziz, who hit 11 off 19 balls and Neil Williams who made 15 off 14 balls including the only six of the Caldrac innings off left-arm spinner Khary Pierre.

The Parkites raced to 76 for one off 11.2 overs with West Indies middle order batsman Darren Bravo hitting a four off spinner Dane Teelucksingh to finish off the chase and ending not out on 34 off 35 balls.

The left hander, playing his first game since returning early from the West Indies tour to New Zealand due to personal reasons, took his time at the start of his innings when he came to the crease following the dismissal of his skipper Justin Guillen, caught off Christopher Vincent’s bowling (one for six) for seven in the second over of the chase.

Bravo opened up against Teelucksingh with a QPCC victory in sight, chipping down the wicket to smash the spinner for six over extra cover. Bravo hit five fours and a six in his knock to lead the chase while Jeremy Solozano provided good support with 29 not out off 28 balls with five fours.
