Defence Force bring UTT back down to earth

Defending Mackeson Super 10 champions Defence Force got their 2013/2014 campaign off to a running start with a 30-point drubbing of UTT at the Southern Indoor Sports Facility in Pleasantville on Friday night.

The Army-Coast guard combination started the game with a 13-0 run and stayed in front throughout the encounter which eventually ended 91-61, with Hoop of Life MVP Derrick Boxhill leading all scorers with 27 points for Defence Force.

He was assisted by Steven ‘Lighter’ Lewis who scored 16.

For UTT, who shocked Diego Martin Allstars last Saturday, Jeffery Harris and first game hero Kerry Celestine both scored 11 points.

In other results, Petro Jazz continued their dominance in the tournament, defeating Mackeson Monarchs 97-61 on Friday night.

On the opening night, Petro Jazz crushed Valencia Heat 99-73 to make an announcement that they will be title contenders for the trophy.

On Friday, Adrian Joseph led from the front, scoring 28 points with three three-pointers.

Ako Pascall helped Joseph with 20 points with his usual energetic and crafty style, while Joseph’s Hoop of Life La Romaine teammate Kevin Sargent hit three shots from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points.

For Monarchs, Andrew Ifill scored 18 points and Louie Davis scored 13. It was Mackeson Monarchs’ second defeat of the season, coming on the heels of last week’s 78-66 loss to Detour Shak Attack.
