Defence Force finished third in the 15th edition of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League after they defeated Caledonia Clippers 92-56 in a sudden-death play-off clash at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex on Sunday night.
The army/coastguard combination team, which was beaten by Valencia Heat 3-0 in its Big-Four semi-final play-off best-of-five series, dominated Caledonia 27-9 in the first quarter, 47-23 at halt-time and 68-35 after three sessions of play.
For Defence Force, point-guard Derrick Boxill led the way with 18 points (seven rebounds), while centre Kevian Bacquain aided with 13 points (nine rebounds). Forwards Steven “Lighter” Lewis also provided support with 12 points while Reon Wilson also contributed 12 (14 rebounds) with Jamille King assisting with 11 (six rebounds).
For Caledonia Clippers, centre Shawn Lawrence hit 20 points (16 rebounds) while forwards Akil Paynter (15 points and six rebounds) and Kerry McMillan (ten points and five rebounds) provided support.
In the other games on Sunday, Caledonia Clippers clinched the 2014 Powerade/Toyota Boys Under-15 Championships after a thrilling 59-58 triumph over Maloney Pacers while the Pacers Under-21 side outplayed Off Limits 88-60 to secure third place in that division.
The Men’s Division finals starts tomorrow with Petro Jazz and Valencia Heat squaring off in Game One at Pleasantville at 8:15 p.m. Before that, the Women’s Division final kicks off with Quarters United and Police playing the first game of their final series from 6:30 p.m.
