Five-star Defence Force stretched their lead to eight points atop the Digicel Pro League standings on Friday night when the shot down second-placed Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA 5-1 at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

DIRECTV W Connection, third, also leapt to within one point of Caledonia when they beat St Ann's Rangers 2-0 on a pair of goals in the first period.

The Army got off to a bad start when Sheldon Holder put them in front in the eight minute, but Caledonia defender Kareem Joseph turned the ball into his own net to cancel his team's advantage in the tenth.

By half-time Defence Force were in complete control, as national striker Devorn Jorsling had twice fired home, while speedy winger Kevon Carter, also a senior national player, had struck net as well. Josimar Belgrave closed out the scoring for the Army late on with an 88th-minute strike.

In the first game of that "Ato Boldon" double header, reigning champions Connection eased past Rangers. They were ahead as early as the the 11th minute, when Harshim Arcia tapped in from close range from a cross from Jerrel Britto.

The 'Savonetta Boys' Surinamese import Stephano Rijssel just failed to make it a two-goal advantage, pulling just wide within the box.

Less than a minute later, Arcia also scoffed an opportunity inches wide of the upright.

But Joevin Jones produced a notabl effort two minutes before the half to give his team a 2-0 lead.

From about 30 metres out, Jones' left-footed drive streaked past Rangers' keeper Clarke and into the net.

Connection have now moved to 16 points, while Rangers remain on eight points.

Caledonia AIA are just ahead of Connection with 17 points, while Defence Force (25 points) have surged away from the pack to lead the standings comfortably.
