2nd round tko: Kertson Manswell

Easy night for Manswell, Sinnette

THE Four featured fighters on the second professional boxing card in Trinidad and Tobago for 2013, all had an early night, scoring quick victories over at best, moderate opponents on Sunday night at Cosmic Boxing Gym, Marabella.

Kertson Manswell, Kirt Sinnnette and locally-based Guyanese fighter Sean Corbin, are all approaching their forties, bounced back from defeats in their last fights. So too did Prince Lee Isidore.

Sinnette, 39, scored a second round victory over local Selywn Guy, who has fought just twice, losing both times, while 37-year-old Corbin (16 wins four defeats) made light work of T&T’s Kenneth Bishop in three round. Having won his first fight, the inexperienced Bishop fell to one win and one defeat.

Former top heavyweight Manswell, 38, is coming off five straight defeats, including two this year in the United States. After winning his first 20 fights, the Tobago-born journeyman has now lost eight times, many of those fights taken overseas at short notice. But Manswell was back on the winning track Sunday,  beating out of shape local Wendell Jorku to score a second round knockout. Following a break,  Jorku was caught in the corner with his guard down and permanently sent to the canvas by a right from the heavy-handed Manswell.

Isidore, the only local pro to fight on local soil this year, seemed to have a more competitive opponent in Guyanese Richardson Williamson, who had won three of his six bouts going into the fight. The Guyanese was the aggressor, but his night ended with a second round tko, after taking some body shots from Isidore.
