East, South clash in BGTT U-19 final

Left-hand batsman Jeremy Solozano and left-arm orthodox spinner Tevon Jadoo will be at the forefront of the battle for the 2014 BG T&T Under-19 InterZone trophy when the tournament final bowls off today at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

Solozano is the leading batsman in the tournament while Jadoo tops the bowling list and both men will be in the East Zone team as they tackle South for the coveted title.

West Indies Under-19 batsman Solozano has been in ripping form, scoring a double century against North in the final Group B match before hitting 158 in their semi-final win over South East.

Jadoo has 30 wickets in the competition so far and will be one of the main bowlers for East, who also have ‘chinaman’ bowler Afdal Khan to call on as well as pacers Akeel Seetal and Reshawn Baptiste.

But South also have a strong team with 2013 Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 all-rounder Jyd Goolie in their ranks. They also have a good fast-bowling pair of Shane Smith and Dominic Nandlal.

Though South have not had any centurions so far in the competition, two of their players came close, with Goolie hitting 92 and wicket-keeper Justin Samkaran getting 94.

The two-day game starts at 10 a.m. today and continues from 9.30 a.m. tomorrow.
