Energisers, Investors go for ‘Tranquil’ hat-trick
UNBEATEN Vitamalt Energisers and RBC Investors will be attempting to complete the hat-trick when the Tranquillity Square Tennis Club’s Intra-Club Team Doubles Tennis Tournament continues today at the club’s courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.
Action serves off at 4.15 p.m. with Energisers opposing Blue Waters Crystals, Investors tackling PWC Checkers and Emile Elias Warriors doing battle against Guardian Warriors.
When the tournament for club members only served off last week Tuesday, Energisers, led by A division players Richard McLetchie and Donna Chin Lee whipped Angels 3-0.
And three days later Energisers lost the third and final match, but it did not matter as they had already taken the first two against Warriors.
Investors led by Mark Lee Lum and two-time defending Tranquillity Open veterans’ (over-45) champion and recently elected Trinidad and Tobago Tennis Association president Kendall Cuffy, scored 2-1 wins over Crystals and Angels, respectively.
Before going under to Energisers, Warriors, led by last year’s “Tranquil” runner-up Cindy Low (formerly Kabli) and David Attong, one of the country’s best players of all time, had edged Checkers 2-1 in the opening fixture last Tuesday.
And after both teams had lost on the opening day, Crystals led by Gerard Duval and former “Tranquil” runner-up and Davis Cup player Rick Avey edged Dion Auguste and company of Checkers 2-1.
The tournament is being contested on Tuesdays and Fridays until October 18, but yesterday was the Republic Day holiday and the matches were switched to today.
