Enterprise land blow to Hard Knocks

Enterprise Life Sports created the biggest upset in the 2014 Lendore Village Football League when they handed the high-flying Hard Knocks FC a 2-1 defeat at the Chrissie Terrace Recreation Ground in Enterprise on Sunday.

Hard Knocks, who had won their first four matches by 3-1, 13-0, 2-0 and 3-0 margins before being held to a 2-2 draw by West Wood Strikers, appeared set for another win when Kern Alexis beat goalkeeper John Rodney in the 22nd minute to take the lead. But someone failed to give Life Sports the script so they decided to write their own.

In the 30th minute, Denzil Gill would make a telling run down the left flank and square the ball back to Dale Cadogan who would slot his effort past Hard Knocks custodian Andre Marchan.

The teams would go in at the interval with the game locked at one goal apiece and all to play for in the second session.

In the second half, Hard Knocks’ superiority in size, strength and passing ability was counteracted by the speed and tenacity of the youthful Life Sports unit. And it was a combination of both factors by second half substitutes Horatio Charles and Deon O’Garro that led to the winning item.

Charles worked his way forward in the 65th minute, using his pace to go past a couple of challenges before picking out O’Garro. The nippy striker kept his composure under close attention to drill a low shot past Marchan.

Not accustomed to trailing, Hard Knocks just could not find an answer and when referee Ellis Thomas blew his whistle to signal the end of the match, it also signalled the end of their unbeaten status.

In other weekend matches, a double from Kendis Garcia in the 60th and 70th minutes and a 61st minute strike by Alvin Boisson gave Valencia United a 3-1 triumph over Cashew Gardens; West Wood Strikers remained in the top half of Group B with a 2-0 win over Young Money FC on the back of goals from Kareem Beckles (fourth) and Anton Gill (69th); Dream Team came from a goal down to beat JOGA Boyz 4-2; and Corner Boys claimed their first win of the season with a 3-1 whipping of Edinburgh 500.
