Former Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 cricketer Randy Bachan, who died on Saturday, was remembered by his teammates as a clean hitter of the ball and a fierce competitor.
Bachan played alongside Imran Jan, Asif Jan, Daren Ganga, Shazan Babwah, Avidesh Samaroo and Ritesh Samaroo in the 1996 T&T Under-19 side and his teammates took to Facebook to pay tribute to the player yesterday.
Imran Jan posted: “Easily one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball... I remember Under- 19 in Sabina Park in Jamaica, he hit one out onto the main road.”
Samaroo posted: “It was indeed an honour to play on his side (and) at times looking at him tearing apart all these bowlers and dispatching them to all parts of the ground...I actually saw fielders pulling back their hands on the field...R.I.P my friend.”
Former T&T and West Indies off-spinner Rangy Nanan said Bachan, who was his cousin, will be cremated in New York tomorrow and remembered him as a hard hitting batsman and a good off-spinner and said he was like a brother to him.
Rangy explained that the 36 year-old Bachan died due to complications following surgery after he fell and broke his hip.
