Fermin, Alexander against Dominican Republic

National amateur champions Andrew Fermin and Michael Alexander will both be in action tonight when Trinidad and Tobago engage the Dominican Republic in an international amateur boxing card from 7 p.m. at the Cosmic Boxing Gym, Battoo Avenue, Marabella.

The Trinidad And Tobago Amateur Boxing Association team is using a series of warm-up internationals in preparation for the Olympic Qualifiers Of the Americas to be held In Brazil from May 4-16. T&T will field their best fighters against the Dominican Republic who have brought seven fighters for tonight's card.

T&T have already won a series against Guyana 4-1, before losing 3-2 to Barbados with a weakened team. This month T&T will face both the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, who are the top two performing amateur boxing countries in the Caribbean region.

The Cosmic Boxing Club card also saw young T&T's professional Prince Lee Isidore beat Bajan Ricardo Blackman by technical knockout after just two minutes 45 seconds of the second round of their scheduled eight-round fight. The victory brings improving Isadore closer to fighting for a WBC Cabofe (Caribbean) title.

Winning amateurs for T&T were United States-based Lawrence Singh and Aaron Prince, who are highly likely to be on the final team for the Brazil qualifiers. Young Olympic hopeful Singh made light work of Barbados Ricardo "Reco" Blackman in the flyweight division, while welterweight Prince disposed of St Vincent's Keithland King, who was fighting on the Bajan team.
