Ferreira takes home 'Svelty' Open title

Christina Ferreira continued her good form in 2013, adding the Nestle Svelty Caribbean Ladies Open title to her trophy cupboard last Sunday at St Andrew's Golf Club in Moka.

Ferreira, who also lifted the TATIL women's title two weeks ago, held off Guyanese rival Christine Sukram to dethrone Judy Stewart, who could not make up the ground to successfully defend her 2012 crown.

At the start of day two Ferriera held a single stroke advantage in the 'A' Class with an opening round four over par 76, with her T&T junior teammate Ysabelle Lawrence (77) just behind her, and Sukram (78) a further shot off.

Stewart was already six strokes off the lead, and could not stage a comeback.

On the decisive 18th hole, Sukram missed a putt for par, meaning Ferreira's bogey was enough to hand her the title.

The 'B' Class went to Kitty Murphy, who stroked a final round 95, while Sherry Ann Fortune was second, and first day leader, another junior national golfer in Serena MacKenzie, was a close third.

The 'C' Class belonged to Karina Matabal, who got her first win in a Ladies tournament after surviving a one-hole play-off opposite Brenda Clarke.

The duo were tied at the end of the final hole. Third was Leonita Wilson.
