Fire Services put a damper on Defence Force's shooting on Thursday to cruise to a 41-25 victory in the Championship Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League (ASNL) at Eastern Regional Indoor Sporting Arena in Tacarigua.
San Juan Jabloteh also had a good day with a 44-36 win over UWI.
Goal attack Nariba Grant led the way for Fire, her hot streak reaping 23 goals in 45 attempts, and was ably supported by goal shoot Aquila Blugh, who had 18 from 40 shooting.
Their combined attempts were more effective than the "Army" girls, who totalled 49 shots. Goal shoot Melissa Snaggs led the way for Defence Force with 19 goals (39 attempts), while goal attacks Makeda Pierre (five of eight) and Donna Chase (one of two) also found the net.
Fire Services led every quarter, with a 12-7 advantage in the first that stretched to 22-13 halfway through the encounter. They began to pull away by the end of the third (29-18), and completed the task by outscoring their opponents 11-7 in the final period.
Jabloteh's scoring efforts came from goal shoot Debra Beckles and goal attack Debra Bain, who both scored 22 goals from 35 and 32 attempts respectively.
But the best shooting of the match came from UWI goal shoot Abeni Taylor (31 of 35), who was the most accurate in the outing, and the top goalscorer. Nicole Laptiste-George added four goals (six attempts), while her fellow goal attack sank her only attempt for UWI.
There was little separating the teams in the first two periods, with UWI heading the first 11-19, before Jabloteh reversed the deficit for a 22-19 half-time lead.
