Fire meet UWI for ASNL Championship KO crown

Fire Service will face UWI for the Courts All Sector Netball League (ASNL) knockout title tonight from 7 p.m. at Eastern Regional Indoor Sporting Arena in Tacarigua.

Both Fire Service and UWI earned four-point victories to put them in the final. Fire stopped Police 33-29, while UWI got past Bermudez 25-21 in matches played in two 20-minute halves.

In their meeting with the Lawwomen, Fire were able to overcome Police goal shoot Jenice McIntosh's accuracy, as she sank 27 of her 30 attempts, the other two goals coming from goal attack Donneisha Wickham (four attempts).

Still, Fire led 17-13 at the halfway stage, chiefly through goal shoot Aquila Blugh's 21 goals from 28 attempts, and 12-of-19 shooting from goal attack Nariba Grant.

In the other contest, UWI and Bermudez were locked at 11-11 by half-time, but UWI goal shoot Abeni Taylor, with her match-high 22 goals (27 attempts) ensured they outscored their opponents in the second half. Goal attack Akeela Rodriguez added the other three goals for UWI.

Bermudez had 17 goals (20 attempts) from goal shoot Kathy James and another four from goal attack Joycelyn Marcelle.

While Championship Division leaders Fire and second-placed UWI had first round byes, Bermudez had to play San Juan Jabloteh first up, and they edged through 17-16.

And Police turned back Defence Force 29-13 in their first outing, after leading 15-6 at half-time.
