ToolsGasparee Open Water for March 10The popular and challenging Kia around Gasparee Open Water swim has been fixed for Sunday March 10, starting at 9 a.m. This year, the swim will start and end on the northern side of the island at St Ignatius bay (Island yacht Charters) and go clockwise around the island, a distance of 5,600 metres. This is the ninth annual swim around Gasparee Island, and the previous eight swims began at Linden Scott's house on the southeast side of the island. Last year 59 swimmers took part in this event. This year the management of the Trinity Masters swim club expect 100 swimmers to take entry and this will include some top distance swimmers from the clubs under the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago. Twenty five swimmers have already registered and only the first 100 entrants will be accepted. This year's prizes will be for first to 10th male and female, as well as first place prizes for all masters swimmers. Competitors will be provided with a Kia Jersey, Kia swim cap, a meal and drinks after the race is finished. Safety is the number one priority for The Trinity Masters and they have already reserved for this event one Coast Guard vessel, five motor boats and 20 kayaks. Arrangements are also being made to have the race taped for TV viewing and each swimmer will be given a CD. |
