Trinis strike gold

TRINIDAD and Tobago’s men gained sweet revenge over Barbados to capture their second gold medal in the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championships last night at Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
Aftter losing in four sets when the two teams clashed in the round-robin group phase on Wednesday night, the hosts came from behind to defeat the nine-time champs 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19.
Incidentally, T&T had won the first set when they were defeated by the most succesful team in this tournament four nights earlier. T&T also gained some revenge for 2006 as they had lost to the Bajans in their first appearance in a final that year after getting the better when the teams clashed in the round-robin group phase.
Last night they made their third straight appearnance in the final of the tournament as they were beaten by Bahamas in five sets in the previous title match two years ago in St Croix after being triumphant in 2010.
After losing in a nail-biting five-setter when they clashed in the group phase, Curacao had the last laugh over Bahamas with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21 for the bronze medal yesterday.
