Guiseppi stars for Diego Martin

 Point-guard Richard Guiseppi scored 19 points and paced two other players into double-figures as Diego Martin All Stars to played to an exciting 82-76 win against  Caledonia Clippers  in the men’s division of the Mackeson Super 10 Basketball League at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex Sunday.

Smarting from three defeats in their last four outings,  Diego Martin outscored Caledonia 31-18 in the last quarter after trailing 36-49 at half-time in an all-round team display  that guaranteed the 2007 Big-Four finalists their third win in eight matches. 

Guiseppi got support from Sheldon Laidlow  and  point guard Sadiki Guerra with 16 and 14 points respectively, as they ended their opponents’ six-game winning streak.

For Caledonia, forward Wesley Vincent top-scored with 21 points and Shawn Lawrence netted 16, to ensure their side stayed on top of the 13-team standings with 16 points.

In other games, UTT moved into second place with 13 points after a comfortable 79-53 win over Sangre Grande Young Stars in the middle game of Sunday night’s triple-header.

 UTT led from start to finish, with guard Jeffrey Harris and forward Patrick Scipio both netting 16 points and captain Kerry Celestine backing them up with 15.

For Sangre Grande, forward Glendon Phillip topscored with 17 points.

And in the first game,  Allison Young, MVP of the 2011-2012 season, continued her prolific scoring exploits when she burned Courts Horizon’s defence for 19 points to help set up a 72-39 romp for Brian Chase Academy in the women’s division.

Courts Horizon trailed 12-10 after the first quarter, but continued to fall further behind. Supporting Young were centre Afeisha Noel  and guard Stephanie Isaac with 11 and nine points respectively.
