Hackshaw in ITF final

TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Emma Davis was beaten in both semi-finals, but fellow two-time defending national Under-14 champion Scott Hackshaw reached the doubles final when the Barbados ITF (International Tennis Federation) Junior Tournament continued Wednesday.

Hackshaw, who lost a singles quarter-final encounter which lasted over four hours the day before, and Antiguan Cordell Williams Jr whipped Barbadians Kyle Frost and Aaron Hayden 6-2, 6-1 in the doubles semis.

Davis, who lost in the Under-16 final of the Catch National Championships last week, came very close to reaching the doubles final before she and St Lucian Meggan William were nosed out 7-6 (8/6), 5-7, 10/7 by Vincentian Alexi Humphrey and Anastasia White.

A player from St Vincent also accounted for Davis in the singles semis as Gabrielle Benn came from behind to prevail 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

The tournament was scheduled to conclude yesterday and the second and final leg of this circuit will serve off in Trinidad tomorrow with Under-14 round-robin group action and the Under-18 qualifying draws.
