Hay, Gillette defend Open Water title
Over 300 swimmers will take to the waters today when the Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) hosts the Maracas Open Water Swim Classic at Maracas Bay, from 10 a.m.
Among them are Carifta Open Water medallists Christian Marsden,Theana Hay and Syriah David all of whom are competing in the 5k event.
Hay and Jonathan Gillette are the defending champions from 2011 after last year’s 5,000 metre race was cancelled because of poor visibility from heavy rain.
There are two categories-juniors and seniors. Juniors are swimmers 12 and under and the distance to be swam is 750 metres while seniors, those 13 and over, can swim either in the 2,650 metres event or the 5000 metres race.
All participants will receive a competition swim cap and a commemorative t-shirt.
ASATT says there will be no late registration and no registration on the day of the race.
