Hector, Wolfe in Asian Cup action
Trinidad and Tobago national men’s footballers Hughton Hector and Anthony Wolfe are both expected to be in action today competing for their clubs in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup. The competition is open to clubs from developing Asian countries and sees 32 teams competing for two spots into the 2015 Asian Champions League.
Today, Hector’s Vietnam club Hà N.i T&T are at home to play their final preliminary round match against Arema Cronus of Indonesia in a top of the table Group G clash.
Hanoi have won four of five matches for 12 points, the only defeat coming 3-1 against the third-placed Maylasian club Selangor FA.
Both Hà N.i T&T and Arema Cronus have already qualified for the round of 16, and the worst position they can finish is second in the group.
Meanwhile, Wolfe’s Indian club Churchill Brothers FC currently lie second, four points behind Indonesia Club Persipura Jayapura in Group E.
Wolfe’s club is in the Maldives to play the bottom team New Radiant and need a good result. The third-placed team Home United of Singapore have a similar seven points to Churchill Brothers, but end their campaign today away to the group leaders.
Wolfe transferred from T&T Pro League club North East Stars to Churchill Brothers in January, with the defending champions bottom of the Indian top division.
Churchill Brothers have since put together some good results and have moved up a spot in the league. Wolfe has scored four goals, two of which came in his club’s two wins in the Asian Cup. Wolfe netted in both the 3-1 and 3-0 home victories for Churchill Brothers over New Radiant and Home United. Churchill have also lost away twice and drew their other match.
