RBC INVESTORS are the only unbeaten team going into the fourth round of the Tranquillity Square Tennis Club’s Intra-Club Team Doubles Tennis Tournament, today, at the club’s courts, Victoria Avenue, Port of Spain.
The team, led by two-time defending Tranquillity Open veterans’ (over-45) singles champion Kendall Cuffy, won their fourth fixture on Wednesday when they defeated PWC Checkers 2-1.
Cuffy, the recently elected president of the Tennis Association of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT), and Mark Lee Lum whipped Dion Auguste and Leontein Snjiders 9-2 in the first match, and then Ken Chang On and Wanda See Tai sealed the victory with a 9-3 triumph over Leslie Joseph and Rick Freeman.
Leslie McLean and Rasha Braack pulled one back for Checkers when they beat Eleanor Mazely and Mattie Siewsarran 9-1.
Vitamalt Energisers also attempted to complete a hat-trick of wins on Wednesday, but with their fixture against Blue Waters Crystals tied at 1-1, Ronald Ramcharan and Donna Crooks lost the decider 9-3 to Geddes Ferreira and Denise Dummett.
Former national champ Keith Thomasos and former Davis Cup player Rick Avey had drawn first blood for Crystals with a 9-4 win over Richard McLetchie and Christine Alcazar.
Rajiv Maraj and Mark Lewis then forced the decider by beating Kevin Ramcharan and Glenda Morean 9-5.
Despite the defeat, Energisers have earned six points and are tied for the lead with Investors, who have won their three fixtures by the same 2-1 score.
Crystals are just one point adrift, one ahead of Emile Elias Warriors, who were beaten 2-1 on Wednesday by Athelstan Phillips and company of Guardian Angels.
Angels and Checkers, losers of their three fixtures, bring up the rear with three points each in the tournament for club members only.
The tournament is being contested on Tuesdays and Fridays until October 18. Investors face Warriors today from 4.15 p.m., while Crystals come up against Angels and Energisers square off against Checkers.
